Make me up for $25 makeup challenge-The Balm Nude palette!

Disclaimer: All items were paid for by me.

This is my first makeup challenge and i'm excited to share it with you!  My mission whether I chose to accept it was to purchase relatively high end or just nice products and build a really nice makeup collection after a while. I am allotted only  $25 a month and I'm finding it easier than I expected! I've got some really nice basics. This is such a smart alternative to splurging on things left and right and probably never using half of the products.

Mission #1 the perfect nudes for everyday. I spied a hugantic sale going down on website in celebration of their new site design opening. I waited for this thing like a little girl awaits Christmas or her first tutu. It actually disturbed my sleep, because I stayed up thinking that when they said tomorrow, it meant anywhere from 1 am to when normal people are up. Alas, they had technical difficulties and kept putting it off until finally the official unveiling of the 50% off sale when I went mad and ninja'd the Naughty Nude palette into my cart. I got it for $22.95 including shipping!  It certainly is a beauty. Similar in some ways to the Urban decay palette, but not many of the same shades. Regardless, I am ecstatic happy with my purchase and this will make a great every day palette for a long time to come.

There are plenty of mattes and lots of sheens, and they're nicely pigmented. I love this thing for everyday to night looks! There are so many smokey eye combos waiting for me to do!

I do have to admit that a big part of me wanted to get it just for the creative design. I love the retro throwback and the suggestive sensor palettes. I go crazy for eye candy like this and it doesn't come around much, especially at this price!

So there you have it. The price was $18 plus 4.95 s/h. The regular retail price was $36!! Leaving a whopping $2.05 leftover. Hey, It could come in handy.

This blog post will "self instruct", now.

See how others are building their makeup arsenal!

DIY tutorial. Book case cover, using contact paper. Drab to Fab in minutes!

I am a bit obsessed with Damask as you may have guessed by my blog background and now it should be apparent with my latest project.

I bought a large 5 shelf book case from Walmart and made a big booboo. I nailed the backing the wrong way. I think I was thinking the other side was white too! Or at least that's what I tell myself. Well, as a result, it was a horrible cardboard color for a backdrop. I wasn't about to undo all those nails, nor do I think I could. There were over a dozen holding it in place. So I had to cover that eye sore up, but how? At first I thought I would paint it, but decided it was too messy and wanted something nicer. Then I thought maybe staple fabric but that could get wrinkly and i wanted something i could wipe clean. THEN, it hit me. Contact paper! It's pretty easy to clean things off of, as it's made out of plastic and slick, there are a plethora of nice designs and I can take it off when I want to change the backdrop to the book case. Bam!

And so the DIY project begins...

I picked up this beautiful Laura Ashley Damask design contact paper at ROSS. It was only $5.99 for two thick rolls, so this whole project costed me literally just that. Everything else I had on hand.

Now, i'm not going to say this wasn't especially annoying, because it was. It's easy, just tedious. This got to be a sticky situation. I had to slip that pun in. It really did, the contact paper kept sticking to itself, so I would suggest you have a buddy help you out by holding it as you cut and as you apply.  Other than that, I think it turned out awesome. Hope you like!

Tools needed
  • Sharp scissors
  • Contact paper
  • measuring tape
  • pencil
  • Shelving unit with removable shelves

First, I measured the area to cut the contact paper to size. In my case, the measurements were a little different each time, because I did them in different sized panels according the size between each shelf. For example, this particular panel was a little over 23 inches across in width by about 16 inches high.

Then I measured the contact paper, which had very helpful lines to keep on track. Here I'm measuring the height at 16' and mark it off with my pencil.

Then I measure the width across at a little over 23' and mark that off.

Then I use the line and pencil marking to guide me where to cut. I cut from the end of the width measurement, up the height and across. So in a 7 shape. You really need to be extra careful with your cutting. If you go out of line, make sure to cut more than you need, not less, because then you will end up having to patch things, which I had to do once. Blasted shaky hands! If you cut more, just get a razor blade and cut the excess off or tuck the excess behind the shelving, if the backing has some give like mine does.

Then I took the sticky contact paper and slowly applied it to the shelf backing. Let's just pretend it didn't stick to itself a trillion times and I didn't use profanity. I did use a left over smoothing card that I got from a dali decals not long ago. Though I actually found my hand worked better in the end. I don't think it's possible to prevent bubbles and creases completely. If you get lots of them, it really won't matter much, because things will be covering most of it. Or hopefully. With this particular design, it's hard to tell even , unless you get very close and scrutinize it. If it gives you too much trouble, unstick and try again or have someone help you. I had to unstick in a few spots and the paper did not lose it's sticky effectiveness by doing so. Evidently, it got stickier! O_o  I implore you to use a buddy when doing this. It will probably go much smoother. Oh, another pun.

I suggest taking a break after two panels, especially if you had a royal rumble with the contact paper. Then come back for round two.

Put the shelving back in and arrange your books, knick nacks and doohickies as shown.

Disclaimer: This is not a paid post.

Just polish the ends to color code your keys and make them easier to tell apart! Use nail art tools to make designs and personalize them to your desire. So cute! i would start with a base coat and end with a top coat after applying the color so they don't chip for as long as possible!

Make your own spray paint by mixing up 2 parts acrylic paint and one part water in a spray bottle. This I need to try for a project i'm planning on doing soon.

Top 13 Beauty and Health uses for Baking Soda.

Disclaimer: I received product to facilitate a review. The tutorial was my own idea. All opinions are 100% my own.

There are plenty of tricks to use with baking soda in cleaning and baking, but did you know that there are a lot of uses for it in your beauty routine? I look for the simplest and cheapest products to do a lot of things for my beauty regimen. Some things you just don't need to break the bank over and why fix what isn't broken? Today, i'm going to show you how Arm & Hammer baking soda can save you money, keep you healthy, toxin-free and beautiful on a budget.

Baking soda is a wonderful little workhorse if you use it right. When mixed with certain acids and liquids, it releases bubbles of sodium hydrogen carbonate. This is the nifty chemical we can thank for all it's help.

The top 13 Beauty & Health uses of baking soda.

Exfoliate the body and face- To make a gentle exfoliator for your face and body, crush up a few aspirin or a small handful of ground oatmeal and mix with 3 parts baking soda and one part water. Mix it up in your hand and slowly rub in circles to slough off dead skin cells. (Avoiding the eye area)  Rinse clean with warm water and reveal softer more healthy looking skin. Do this 1-2 times a week or even every day. It is gentle enough on your skin.

Hair Product Build up- Put your favorite shampoo in the palm of your hand and mix a quarter size of baking soda into it. Shampoo normally and rinse thoroughly. This helps to remove all the build up from styling products and is a lot less harsh than clarifying shampoo.

Dry Shampoo- Just sprinkle a small amount in the palm of your hand and brush through starting at the roots.

Natural Deodorant- Baking soda is known for its odor eliminating powers. Guess what? That doesn't stop at your body. It makes a great deodorant. Simply dust baking soda under your armpits with a powder puff after a shower and when needed throughout the day. It is a natural odor eliminator. It absorbs the odor and does not cover it up. This is a safe alternative to aluminum containing deodorants. As with all natural deodorants, they do not keep you from perspiring, but it will keep the odors at bay.

Pre-Shave and After-Shave- Mix approximately 3-5 Teaspoons baking soda (Use 3 on sensitive skin) with 2 tablespoons warm water or a hydrating cleanser and massage into skin that is to be shaved. To prevent ingrown hairs, do this before and then after the shave a day later. This is great for men and woman alike!

Tooth paste and mouth wash- Whiten your teeth naturally over time with this stuff. It's no joke. Baking Soda has whitening action. All the cool tooth pastes use it. Just mix a  paste up with 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda,  1-2 teaspoons hot water and 1 bottle cap full of hydrogen peroxide 3%. Put the paste on your brush and move it in circles on each tooth. This kills bacteria and whites teeth over time. When done, you may prefer to get the taste out by gargling a little salt water. This does not replace regular toothpaste if you are looking for cavity protection, as it doesn't contain flouride. However, it's great to use a few times a week.

To freshen your mouth after eating, gargle a teaspoon of baking soda with water. You can also relieve canker sore pain with this method.

Exfoliating pedicure and cuticle care- Drop Two Tablespoons of baking soda in a basin big enough for you feet filled with enough water to cover them. For a spa like feel mix in a few drops of lavender oil. After your soak, make a scrub using 3 parts baking soda and one part water. If more exfoliation is needed, add on part brown sugar. Follow up with a rich moisturizer in a your favorite scent. I recommend peppermint and vanilla or lavender and vanilla. Or all 3. So yummy and refreshing! Finish by wrapping your feet in a warm towel for  5-10 minutes.  Do the same scrub for your nails and cuticles and really work it into them. Your feet and hands will feel so soft!

I used this method just the other day and added a little of my favorite Burts Bees lemon body oil for extra softening and a nice scent. The natural exfoliation of the baking soda is effective so really work it into the fingers. My cuticles and hands feel incredibly soft. It really softens the cuticles up to make for easier trimming.

Remove strong odors from hands- Just rub a small handful of it between your palms with some water and you will be rid of  almost any offensive odor.

Clean your hair brushes, combs and makeup brushes- Mix 1 teaspoon baking soda into 1 cup lukewarm water. Then swirl your brushes around and use your fingers to carefully work the gunk out. Rinse each time until the water runs clear. Lay flat on a paper towel to dry. For extra degunking and a nice scent, add 1 teaspoon of gentle baby shampoo.

Ease the pain of insect bites, poison ivy, a sunburn and/or heat rashes- When you bathe, rub a handful of it all over the problem spots. You will feel a cooling relief.

Bath Soak- Just add 1/2 cup to your normal bath and soak all of your body in it. It's great on tired muscles too.

Ease Heartburn- Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with one-half glass of water and swallow.

Ease Interstitial Cystitis-Take the same mixture for the heartburn before meals that may make the problem worse or to help soothe the problem already there.

*Baking soda should not be used if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, or swelling of the arms or legs. It can make these symptoms worse. Do not habitually take baking soda for more than 2 weeks, without consulting your doctor. Never take baking soda on a full stomach. If the stomach is already bloated, the baking soda can cause the stomach to bloat up even more.*

I really make use of my baking soda, especially for exfoliation. Don't underestimate the beauty of Arm & Hammer Baking soda. Expensive doesn't always mean better. If you find something that is more expensive and you buy it just for the scent,  stop. Find that scent, sniff it out, and add a few drops to your baking soda routine. You will save tons. Experiment with your own scents, like lavender and vanilla, peppermint and vanilla, or lemon. My favorite scents.

I recommend carrying a little baggy or tube of baking soda to keep on hand in your purse. You never know when you'll need it.

Arm & Hammer Baking soda comes in several different sizes. My favorite is the shaker bottle so that I can get out just as much as I need, without over pouring.

Neo Cell Chocolate Mint Beauty Bursts

Everyone wants to look younger. I'm not obsessed with defying gravity, but I would like to prolong my youth as long as possible until the point where we discover how to defy it. :) It may not be as long as off as we think. Yeah I know, only in my dreams or sci fi movies.

Well, there are products that are said to help to slow the aging process down and of these is the Neo Cell Beauty Bursts I tried out for review. I was intrigued enough and thought, well they're not horse pills so i'll give it a go. Wow, these are some tasty chews. They basically taste like mint chocolate candy, but hidden inside is the chemistry of biotin and collagen, which help keep your hair, skin and nails looking young.

I didn't have a problem scarfing down the recommended 2-3 chews every day and after a month I would love to report that I saw a change in anything, but maybe that is because I didn't have brittle nails to begin with. My skin has been feeling softer, but I have also been using many different skin creams so it is hard to pin point any exact thing. I would continue to ingest these yummies if it meant after a few months I might see some results.

Neo Cell Beauty Bursts Ingredients:

  • Brown rice syrup
  • evaporated cane syrup
  • soy lecithin
  • palm oil and/or safflower oil
  • dutch cocoa powder
  • natural flavors
  • glycerine.
  • Collagen Type 1 & 3 / Skin Builder
  • Hyaluronic Acid / Skin Hydrator
  • Vitamin C / Collagen Enhancer
  • 2,000 MG Collagen
  • Lactose Free
  • Gluten Free
I love that there is no gluten or lactose in these. That is very uncommon in things this delicious.

I have heard some good reviews across the board, so this may take longer to kick in for some. A lot claimed their nails grew faster, but I honestly do not have a problem growing witch nails or my hair. That's the ONE thing I don't have issues with. For those that do, this might work well for you. I do struggle with joint and nerve pain and collagen supplements are said to help with that, so I may try their pills next.

Neocell is our nations largest provider of natural supplements and they offer a wide variety of products.

You can buy beauty bursts for $16.99 on and get $10 off your first purchase of $30 or more! Let me know if you see any changes!

Check out Neo cell on Facebook to  keep up with promotions and find information on their other anti aging supplements.

I received this product to facilitate a review. This is 100% my own opinion. Your opinion may differ from mine.

Nails of the day #2 Green with envy Using ELF Nailpolish from the limited edition bright colors cube.

I was so green with envy when I saw this color on E.L.F. I had to have it.

It's perfect for spring and summer. The color is a muted pastel green and I added glitter from the same collection to it. It reminds me of a whimsical meadow. Both the glitter and green polish are from their Limited Edition 14 color cube of mini polishes in"brights" Which can be found here:

This nail polish was not provided to me to facilitate a review. I bought this particular collection myself.

St. Ives Body lotion, Exfoliating pads and Green Tea scrub Review

I love trying out the latest and greatest body lotions and potions and several of the older names have come up with new chemistry for their products. One of those companies is St. Ives. I have been a long time lover of their peach face scrub and lotions, but now they have so much more.

The products that I was provided with are really nice. There wasn't one my body disagreed with.

Let's start off with the Blemish control Green Tea Scrub- 4.5 fl. oz. for $4.99 This face scrub has a very refreshing green tea scent that I really like. Not too strong, but not too light. It is made with 1% salicylic acid to combat acne and black heads and has the teeniest of exfoliation bits, but not so little that it doesn't get the job done. I have sensitive skin, so this is perfect for me. The experience in the shower is nice, as the scent is strong and makes me feel like i'm in a mini spa. I have used this for a month now 1-2 times a week and it really does help with keeping the acne at bay. Immediately I feel my existing acne dry up, but still keeps the rest of my skin soft. It's not the only product I use, but It definitely helps and I love the feeling of it on my skin. I would recommend it for sensitive acne prone skin. It leaves skin very soft and smooth without any redness or irritation, as claimed.

The second product is their Scrub-Free Exfoliating pads- 60 pads for $4.99 I LOVE the scent of these. Very refreshing and notat all medicinal. It's hard to describe. It's a fusion of fruity and fresh. I think I detect cucumber in there. These work well to very gently exfoliate dead skin without the scrubbing action that some people don't like. This is done with a natural AHA complex, along with fruit extracts and vitamin e to keep skin smooth and soothed.  I do see a change as I use it . My skin feels smoother and dead skin is definitely coming off. As always with any AHA and BHA,WEAR SUNSCREEN, as it makes your skin more vulnerable to the sun. Also wear it 1 week after use.

The third product is the Naturally Soothing Oatmeal and Shea Butter body lotion- 21 fl. oz. for $5.29 I have always been a fan of their lotion and the new formula and scents are no exception. It is a thin consistency  but not too thin and moisturizes really well. The smell is wonderful and not too strong. Sweet but not too sweet. after applied, it doesn't leave a sticky film and absorbs quickly. I have been using this for over a month and it really has made my skin smoother with daily use. Don't bother with expensive creams!

Other reasons I love St. Ives?

  • Most products ingredients have never been tested on animals nor contain animal ingredients.  (Excluding the face scrub in this review. I believe it has been tested or has ingredients that have been)
  • They remain non-comedgenic and dermatologist recommended.
  • Mostly naturally derived ingredients.
  • They contain no Parabens or Pthalates.
  • Mostly Hypoallergenic.
  • Competitive prices.
  • A little goes a long way
This company is a tried and true one that has been around for well over a decade and I continue to use all their products on a regular basis. The cost is affordable and they do deliver results.

You can find out more info and keep up with promotions on their Facebook

I received these products to facilitate a review. I am always 100% truthful in my opinions. Your opinion may differ from mine.

Personal Creations Review

I love having things personalized as gifts. I think it's a much more thoughtful touch and they make great heirlooms to pass down for generations to come. A lot of personalized things can be kind of corny and not that creative though. This is where Personal Creations comes in. An affordable and very cute online store full of unique products to personalize for yourself, your family or friends.

Budget tight on Mother's Day? #DIY

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I am just sharing my ideas and knowledge.
Mothers Day doesn't have to be stressful when deciding what to pick out as a gift for her. There are so many affordable options that many of us bypass on a daily basis.  Today, I'm going to show you a project I did using nothing, but the stuff I had on hand and a few extra dollars. It's amazing what kind of quality products you can get for steals and deals

My mom is obsessed with anything lavender and daisies and I'm still surprised at myself for not having done this before. Last year, I made her a gift basket revolving around a pampering lavender and flowers theme. It is a simple DIY that pretty much anyone can do and incredibly low budget, but not low quality. Hope you enjoy!

FREE Love with Food Box 5-1-2013 !

Ozeri 12 inch Ceramic Green Earth pan Review

Several years ago I switched all my pans to more eco friendly choices after I learned about the harmful chemicals from nonstick coatings like Teflon. When heated up, these chemicals seep into your food and not only that but the actual Teflon falls into your food. How many of you have had their pans flake into their food? I know I have! This is why I won't use those kinds of pans anymore. Who knows how much damage it has already done, but better late than never to change things.

Green Giant Veggie snack chips Review

As a Bzzagent, I had the chance to try out a new, yummy and healthy snack chip by Green Giant. This is a really satisfying snack and I throughly enjoyed the flavors they provided me with.

I received the flavors:
  • My favorite, the Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips with Zesty Cheddar - A crispy tortilla chip made with real veggies, like carrot, broccoli, and tomato, plus 17g of whole grain.
  • Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips with Sea Salt - A multigrain chip made with real sweet potatoes and 14g of whole grain, with 40% less fat than regular potato chips!

I dipped the sweet potato and cheesy chips in some sour cream and salsa, as that was all I had on hand for a dip and it was delicious!

These chips have 40% less fat than regular potato chips and they remind me a lot of Sun chips in terms of taste and texture, so it's a competitive brand. I would say these are pretty healthy. Not the healthiest I have had, but the reduction of fat is good.  They had more oil than I would have expected for a healthy chip. I think as a midday small snack, they are just fine if you are on a diet. Just don't go overboard.

To see just how they stack up to Doritos, here is some nutrition info.

Verdict? Not a huge difference, but still better for you.

So if you miss that cheesy goodness from Doritos, here's a slightly healthier replacement. You won't notice a big difference in taste.

The Sweet potato chips are have less flavor and less salt, but aren't bland at all and I am a huge sweet potato lover, so I loved these too.

If i can find these in my Publix, I will probably grab a bag again for quick go to snacking.
