Oily Hair remedies: My thoughts on the Jumping Juniper Shampoo bar

I really wanted to love this vegan and cruelty-free soap for oily hair.  My hair gets very oily very fast,   but I had the same problem as a lot of others have complained about. The Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar by LUSH leaves your hair extremely brittle and I think that is because of the overbearing amount of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate they use. This is a very drying chemical and not really needed and the very first ingredient. It is only popularly used, because it comes cheaply and feeds that sudsing foamy addiction people have come to love. For me, I would gladly forgo the bubble trouble on my head or at least cut the amount in half. There are so many other alternatives now that still deliver plenty of lather. It's needless, toxic and something should replace it.

It works, which is sad. It could be amazing with the right chemical restructure and the bar lasts eons when kept in a metal tin, so it's very economical and makes me even more sad it doesn't deliver. I love the smell and look of the bar and the way it really helps my oily hair, but no amount of conditioner will repair that dry brittleness. It also leaves my hair very frizzy and puffy, which is minimally tamed with styling cream and conditioner. This only sets it in stone for the vicious circle to continue. I use it sparingly, but not much. Only because i'm in LOVE with the smell, which is a heavenly trio of lavender, lemon lime and juniperberry.

If the ingredients don't bother you, try it. There are as many raves as complaints on their main site.

I will probably use this up very sparingly and not repurchase again, but the hunt is on for that scent. I would love it in a candle, detergent or lotion. SO good.

Ingredients:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , Lavender Infusion (Lavandula Angustifolia) , Rosemary Infusion (Rosmarinus officinalis), Fragrance , Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum) , Juniperberry Oil (Juniperus communis) , Lime Oil (Citrus aurantifolia) ,*Citral , *Limonene , *Geraniol , *Linalool , Propylene Glycol, Violet 2 . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

3 ways to show yourself some love.

Three Ways to Show Yourself Some Love

The older you get, the faster life seems to go. With each passing day, there are more obligations to fulfill, more relationships to nurture, and more ideas to juggle. While there is a wonderful side to it all, it can also leave you feeling run down and stressed.

With the holidays approaching at lightning speed, it is not likely that your life is going to slow down anytime soon. You might feel like collapsing under the weight of all your responsibilities. Instead of throwing in the towel, however, consider taking some time once a week to indulge in one of these self-care activities.

1. Write in a Journal

Self-reflection is not only a useful tool for unwinding from daily stresses, but it also helps you come to a better understanding of yourself and how you fit into your world. The best way to consistently engage in self-reflection is to keep a journal. In an actual paper journal. Why? Because the act of writing in itself helps jog thoughts and ideas. It's also nice to have something tangible before sleep at night and it will deter you from your phone or computer. You might even get a better nights sleep! All you have to do is find some methods that work for you and engage in them at regular intervals.

For example, if you are a list-maker, write five high points and five low points for each week, with a concluding paragraph about the greater significance of those moments. If you are having difficulty thinking clearly about your current troubles, try free-writing about them in thirty-minute stretches to see if clarity emerges. For some extra writing motivation, try investing in a gorgeous journal such as these unique beauties. I love the Tardis journal!

2. Get a hot new outfit for a night out.

If you have been working and rushing nonstop, then it is time to schedule a break in the action for a fun night out with your favorite people. Try to avoid your usual haunts and make some memories instead. If you normally go to a certain restaurant, ask your friends if they would be up for trying somewhere new. Even if you stick with a familiar environment, order a dish or drink you would not normally try. Remember, your goal is to disrupt the stressful monotony and refresh your outlook on life.
Of course, a special night calls for a special outfit and you need a confidence boost. Stop listening to the voice in your head that tells you those styles you love are for other people, but not for you. Pick out a daring pair of heels and a killer dress to go with them. You will be proud of yourself for making the leap, and you will have a stunning outfit waiting in your closet when it is time for another big night.

3. Have a Spa Night

When life gets busy, personal grooming is one of the first habits that takes a hit. Even if you are still attending to basic hygiene, you may have let bigger tasks like skin treatments and pedicures fall by the wayside. Most people do not have time to engage in these activities every day in any circumstances, but if you are particularly stressed, you have good reason to let them back into your life.
Carve out some extra time one evening to give yourself a spa night. Before the appointed hour rolls around, make yourself a special homemade scrub. Spa night is not the time to rush through your shower and scramble off to answer emails. Instead, draw yourself a warm bath and grab a book you have been meaning to read. After a relaxing soak in the tub, you can put on a facemask, give yourself a pedicure, and comb every last tangle out of your hair. When you have dried off, put on comfortable pajamas and go to bed—no screens allowed.

Take Time to Take Care

These three self-love rituals are just a few of many ways to refresh and relax on a regular basis. You could also go for a run, bake and eat some cookies, or snuggle with your cat. The possibilities are almost endless. What is not endless is your capacity for handling stress.

Taking the time to care for yourself is not just another chore to scribble off your list. Pulling yourself out of the cycle of stress at regular intervals is essential to leading a balanced, happy life. With a rejuvenated mind, body, and spirit, you will be infinitely more capable of conquering your current challenges and taking on new ones. So buy a journal, strap on some new heels, or whip up a scrub. Before long, you will feel your stresses slipping away and your sanity returning.

3 healthy habits I picked up in the past few months.

Products mentioned have been supplied to me for free, in exchange for my honest review. Affiliate links may be contained within. I never recommend anything that I wouldn't use myself.

It has been quite a while since I last blogged. A lot has transpired since then, like turning 99% plant based, starting therapy for my chronic pain and autoimmune disease. Plus, my first kidney stone thrown in there. I have never felt pain like I felt then. You think you have felt the worst, until that.

In an effort to bring my health up to speed and possibly, hopefully, for the love of all that is good, prevent another kidney stone, I have incorporated some new changes into my life. Specifically in diet, body and mental health. Being in my mid 30's has really put things into perspective for me. I have been living too sedentary and although i've been healthy, not healthy enough. Even when you eat healthy, being as sedentary as I was, would negate all benefits of that in the long run.

Turning 99% plant based has been really beneficial to me in terms of skin, body and mental well being. I have a lot more energy, have lost 27 pounds and going, and my skin is much clearer. It's been quite a challenge at times to get to where I am, but it was definitely worth it in the end. However, I do sometimes miss the convenience! The convenience of those foods was unbeatable. You have to make everything from scratch and i've never done so much chopping in my life. These are all good things though. Even with chronic pain as bad as mine, it helps to keep myself moving and busy. We were meant to make things, not have them made for us all the time. And there is a refreshing power you get when you have control over what goes into your body. So many foods today are like foreign objects to our system.

1. VITAMINS

Photography by: Brie Snyder

Since turning plant based, I have incorporated a few necessary vitamins into my daily and weekly routine. One of the most important, being Vitamin B-12, which comes easiest through meat and dairy, but even many people who eat meat still may not get enough. You also start to produce less of it, the more you age. So everyone should take B-12 and you can never have too much. Right now, I take a sub-lingual and have just started to incorporate gummies for extra support. The brand i'm using now is Sundown Naturals and they have the flavor of chocolate and coffee, so they go great with my morning Cupa. These gummies are free of caffeine, milk, wheat and many other nono's, but they are not vegan. I strive to find only vegan, plant based vitamins, but they will do for now, as I received them free to try out and am still transitioning. Sundown Naturals also carries a vegetarian B-12 sublingual, which is Gluten free as well.  In addition, I started taking Melatonin gummies by the same company.  A restful sleep is so important for me.

2. YOGA

Photography by: Brie Snyder

I have recently taken up Yoga again for the health of my body as well as mind. It helps my pain, it's a great stress reliever and really relaxes you. I also try to meditate some, while doing this. It is the perfect time to let go just lying there on my comfortable Yoga mat. This one I have had for a while and am absolutely loving is the Aurorae Printed 5mm Thick Yoga Mat The one I chose is a vibrant purple called Energy, with a sort of ombre effect, meant to mimic the Northern Lights. It is gorgeous and thick and has REALLY stood the test of time over years now. So if you want a reliable, comfortable, very large, eco friendly and affordable yoga mat, I would recommend them. I also like to use the Aurorae Lavender Spa mist and candle  It really does aid in the relaxation effects.

3. Sonic Tooth brush

Photography by: Brie Snyder

The third and last change I have made is something you might find a given for you. I started using a sonic electronic tooth brush. Yup, I am probably the last to jump on board the whole fancy electronic tooth brush train. I'm glad I did. My gums have been thanking me ever since and my teeth have never felt so clean and pearly feeling. I never got this kind of clean with another brand of a very cheap electronic toothbrush, nor my regular brush. I am now a firm believer that everyone needs one. It is like a massage for your teeth and gums. When we say full body massage, it should include our face and teeth. Pictured, is the Poseidon Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush  . It has a sleek and inconspicuous decor friendly design. Perfect for my porcelain white sink area. This guy has a fast charge and 3 different settings for speed. It also comes with extra brushes. So far, it has been very reliable and it's been many months. I'm actually not kidding when I say I enjoy brushing my teeth a lot more. It's faster and more comfortable than ever before. They also have a new Poseidon Oral Irrigator that I'm curious about. I've never used one. Oh, the things that exist in the wonderful world of oral hygiene.

Those are the 3 big or small changes I have made, depending on how you view it. To me, they are significant changes I will definitely keep around and I know there will be more to come.

For those of you who hate swallowing horse pills.

I was provided a free sample, via Centrum, in exchange for my honest review. All information is FTC compliant.

Hate swallowing your horse pill multivitamins? You are not alone. I can't stand it. I can swallow pills fine, but my current multivitamin is bigger than any vitamin should ever be. I get it has good stuff, but does it really have to be that big? In this day and age I feel like they can condense things better than this. Even when I cut the pill, it doesn't go down easy, because it's jagged and sadly still kinda freakin big!
